About
Bunga Dessri is a vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, composer, activist, and writer based in West Java. In music, she explores various types of Sundanese vocals and specializes in traditional Sundanese instruments including the rebab, tarawangsa, piul (Sundanese violin), tarompet penca, kacapi, suling, and gamelan.For over a decade, Bunga has been an advocate for challenging gender stigma and stereotypes within Sundanese Karawitan. She is actively involved as a cultural researcher and critic, spreading positive influence and encouraging communities, particularly women, to pursue and develop their talents and interests freely.Currently, Bunga serves as the Chairwoman of the Puspa Karima Foundation, an organization dedicated to promoting freedom, independence, and empowering women and children through traditional culture. She is also the Director of the Kacapaesan Research Centre, a community organization focused on cultural research and advocacy. Additionally, she works as an educator at the Children’s Art Studio and TAW KIDS (Children’s Learning Content).
